A selection of British weaponry from the Napoleonic Wars and a pair of original Boutet dueling pistols are among four hundred beauties to enrich the Russian museum?s historical Battle of Borodino collection.

?The Moscow venue is reopening on Tuesday after extensive reconstruction, a month ahead of schedule.

A number of artifacts dating back to 1812 will be on public display for the first time, including personal belongings of the legendary Russian General Mikhail Kutuzov, who led the Russians in the battle.

The museum also has a virtual reality room, where a 3D film on the Battle of Borodino will run.

Fought in 1812 and involving 250,000 troops, the key battle became the bloodiest single day in all the Napoleonic Wars. The French Army under Napoleon attacked the Imperial Russian Army near the village of Borodino. Although the French captured the main positions on the battlefield, Napoleon failed to destroy the Russian army. The battle marked a turning point in the rise of French power in Europe.

Celebrations of the 200th anniversary of the battle will be held throughout the year in Russia.
