Animated video shows Orion spacecraft in orbit

NASA may have pushed back the Orion spacecraft's test flight to 2014, but you can get an early glimpse of the capsule in orbit thanks to this animated video from Full Werks studio. You'll see the capsule circle the planet before touching down in the Pacific -- all with a much better view than you can expect when that actual launch date rolls around. The animation features audio clips from the original Apollo and, as any NASA-related video worth its salt should, includes a vintage voiceover from space sage Carl Sagan.

The Downsides to Apple?s iPad

When Apple’s iPad was launched, there were queues of people waiting to get their hands on one. The revolutionary tablet iPad was going to offer people a new device that was going to change their lives. However, a lot of people shrugged at the idea with clear indifference. Many people announced their disappointment at the fact the iPad could not deliver on it’s promises. The two opposing views show just how divided opinions are about the device. First we need [...]

Donald Trump FINALLY Fires Dayana Mendoza

Dayana Mendoza may have been a Miss Universe, but Donald Trump finally fired her from Celebrity Apprentice last night. After another grueling Board Room show down between Dayana and Lisa Lampanelli, The Donald had had enough. This, despite the fact that bot Lisa and Clay Aikens argued that Dayana did very little in this week?s task of writing a jingle for the Good Sam organization. Once again, the so-called ?creative? talents of Lisa and Clay fell short, but they live to fight another day. Meanwhile, Aubrey O?Day managed to help Arsenio Hall win the task, despite his initial rejection of her game-winning suggestions. Donald Trump may think the world of former Miss Universe Dayana Mendoza, but he still was forced to fire her from Celebrity Apprentice. Image Credit: Ivan Nikolov / Wenn.com. The fun begins with Trump telling both teams about this week?s task of creating a 90-second long jingle to promote the Good Sam cell phone app. Arsenio and Dayana are the Project Managers while Ivanka and Don Jr. are daddy?s viceroys. Right away things get dicey for Team Forte when Dayana asks Clay and Lisa if the jingle must be like a Christmas song? Jingle Bells, Dayana smells, [...]

Best Buy Connect no longer accepting new activations, service to end June 1st (update: confirmed)

Image

Remember Best Buy Connect? If so, you'll soon have a few more megabytes of humanized DDR3 freed up, as it appears that the retail giant is ready to put the kibosh on its own branded mobile broadband service nearly two years after it was first unveiled. According to the internal memo shown in the above screenshot, new activations are no longer allowed effective immediately, and the service for legacy customers will be cut off on the first of June.

So why the change of heart? Apparently Connect is the victim of a reshuffling of priorities, and the company determined that it "can achieve greater growth by delivering mobile broadband support in ways other than an exclusive Best Buy-branded service." Of course, this is bound to upset more than a handful of folks who have been relying on Connect for their data needs, and the retailer isn't leaving them completely in the dark: to help smooth out the transition, all Early Termination Fees will be waived, and all customers will receive a $125 or $150 gift card via email to curb the cost of moving to a different carrier. WiMAX Connect users, additionally, will also be given the option to switch over to Clear service. We're still awaiting official confirmation from Best Buy -- as of this moment, the official website remains up and running as if it's none the wiser -- but we'll update as soon as we hear more.

Update: Best Buy has now officially confirmed that the service will indeed be shut off on June 1st.

Advanced Easy Editor Goes Bare Bones, Then Breaks Out the Sandpaper

Sometimes too much of a good thing in free software can create bad impressions. For instance, some of the free stuff so easily available in Linux distro package managers is so archaic that newcomers to the OS might understandably shriek in horror. Don't get me wrong. I absolutely am a big fan of FOSS applications.

Known affectionately as Twrp, this handy utility allows you to backup and recover your Android world even as you flit effortlessly between different custom ROMs. Two-point-oh worked great on a limited selection of devices, like the Nexus S, Kindle Fire and TouchPad, but this latest update brings improved support for Honeycomb tablets and ICS handsets like the Galaxy Nexus, while also doing its thing on the Transformer Prime for the first time. Team Win has even introduced a OpenRecoveryScript function, which lets apps influence the recovery process in order to preserve even more consciousness across rebirths. Penny Stocks Will Be A Tremendous Way To Make Money Investing ...

Almost everyone has heard about the stock market?s issues in the past few years and now the recovery that has taken place. ?It can be hard to know how to invest your money if you can?t afford to take on a money manager. ?The smart thing is that you can do plenty of research online and learn all about investing. ?Declining your overall risk and taking more risks in your portfolio?when you are young are a few things that the majority of investing literature will tell you to do. ?

Whereas it is very smart to obey most of the time honored investing principles that you can learn about, there are other types of investments that you could want to consider. ?While learning to invest, you could start with investing in penny stocks and go from there. ?Penny stocks can be fun to purchase because they can bring sizeable returns (but also can lose a tremendous deal as well). ?The rewards for investing in penny stocks can be much higher than typical stocks and it is?invariably fun to pick a really big winner.

You may not know what penny stocks are, but they are generally personified as stocks that trade under $1 and are not listed on the major stock exchanges. ?Not being regulated the same as prevalent brand name stocks is the main reason that penny stocks are thought of as much riskier than regular stocks. ?

Even though there is risk, you can invest a small amount of money in these stocks simply to get your feet wet in investing. ?If you want to purchase penny stocks, there are plenty of sites online to help you choose which ones to purchase. ?Good luck with your investing if you do choose to?choose some penny stocks to purchase.

HTC One V kernel source released

One V

HTC has released the kernel source for the Asian and European version of the One V, (see Alex's great review here) meeting their obligations under the GPL and teasing potential Android hackers all with one stroke. As it is every time we see source code get released, this won't mean much for the average Joe or Jane, but the good things that come from it certainly may. The kernel is the window to the hardware, and lots of cool things can happen when the right people tinker with it.

We can't wait for these phones, and this code, to get in the right hands. You can grab the code here.

Alexandre Herchcovitch dresses up HP Pavilion dm1 with golden doilies, higher sticker price

Alexandre Herchovitch dresses up HP Pavilion dm1 with golden doilies, higher sticker price
Ask the most fashionable folks you know, looking good isn't cheap -- no surprise then, that playing dress up has put a premium on the HP Pavilion dm1's price tag. Brazilian designer Alexandre Herchcovitch has dolled up the ultraportable laptop with a lacy gold topcoat, applying the signature flair to the machine's keyboard, palm rest and lid. The cost of style? About $1800, according to Notebook Italia, which buys you 4GB DDR3 SDRAM, a 500GB hard drive and 1.65GHz dual-core AMD E-450 brain. A pretty penny, considering the notebook's Core i3 model can be had for a mere $600. Sure, Herchcovitch takes the dm1 out of our holiday gift guide's "on the cheap" section, but where else are you going to get a designer doily kicks?
