I Want To Read About ? Oster and Hyatt to Compete in the State ...

Oster and Hyatt to Compete in the State Farm U.S. Figure Skating Championships

(PRWEB) December 21, 2004

In the 1988 Calgary Winter Olympics there was the ?Battle of the Brians? [Boitano and Orser], along with the ?Battle of the Carmens? [Katarina Witt and Debi Thomas], and maybe in the 2010 Vancouver Winter Olympics, there might be the ?Battle of the Megans? ? hey why not? But, for now, they are both happy just going to compete in the State Farm U.S. Figure Skating Championships in Portland, OR, January 9-16, 2005.

There are many similarities between these two figure skaters. They are best friends and training buddies, they train out of the same rinks in both IL and Kenosha WI, they both belong to Wagon Wheel Figure Skating Club of Barrington, IL, they are both born in July (a year apart), and they are both coached by Denise Myers with choreography by Susie Wynn Barth (2-time US gold medalist in Ice Dancing)a figure skating commentator for ABC and ESPN Sports. Both are also coached by Alex Ouriashev.

But for now the main difference is that Kenosha?s Megan Oster competes in the Junior ladies division and Lindenhurst resident Megan Hyatt (14) competes one level below her in the Novice ladies division.

This is Oster?s third time going to nationals. Oster earned her way to Portland by winning the Midwestern Sectionals, in Fargo, ND, in November. Oster placed 3rd in the country as a Novice in Atlanta, GA this past January to earn a spot on the US figure skating team and 3 international assignments in 2004. In April, she won the bronze in the Novice ladies event at Triglav Trophy in Slovenia; she took the gold in the Junior ladies event at the North American Challenge Skate in San Jose, CA; and she competed in the prestigious ISU Jr. Grand Prix series competition in Kiev, Ukraine, placing 4th.

Oster (who is a sophomore at Tremper High School) will skate her short program to ?Nights in White Satin,? and her free skate to ?Rhapsody in Blue.? A total of 7 triple jumps are planned for her free skate, including a triple toe, triple toe combination (which she has landed in her previous competition).

While Oster was having success, Hyatt had her own. She took gold at the 2004 Silicon Valley Open in San Jose, CA and won the gold at the Greater Chicagoland Fall Invitational. Hyatt will skate her short program to ?Any Dream Will Do? and her free skate to ?Malaguena.? She has trained along with Oster in Newark, Delaware, where Hyatt also skated in the Liberty Summer Competition and won the Novice Ladies Free Skate this past July.

Hyatt, who goes to Lake Community High School in Lake Villa IL, as a freshman, earned her way to the nationals in the Ladies Novice division by taking the silver at the 2005 Upper Great Lakes Regional in Cedar Rapids, Iowa and the bronze at the 2005 Midwestern Sectional Championships in Fargo, ND.

Both young ladies are looking forward to the competition in Portland.

You can contact Carol Oster to set up dates for you to come out for practice times, interviews and shows.
